Ultimate Chafe Burger

A couple posts ago I wrote about the scenic hike I took with a few others from Cape Spear to Maddox Cove on the east coast of Newfoundland. After our hike we went to the nearby town of Petty Harbour to eat at Chafe’s Landing. The restaurant is located in what is the oldest house in the community. It was built in 1878 by Edward Chafe who was a fisherman in Petty Harbour.

The menu is mostly made up of seafood, from clams to mussels to cod, but it also has some burger choices. One of these is the Ultimate Chafe Burger. This burger is your typical burger with a hefty 8 oz. beef patty, bacon, lettuce, tomato, onions and pickles. The “Ultimate” part is in the bun. The chef has done away with the typical bun and has replaced it with two grilled cheese sandwiches. Yes, a burger between two grilled cheese sandwiches.

Lucky for me someone had the nerve, or in this case the “guts,” to order and devour the Ultimate Chafe Burger along with a side of fries. I was able to get a snapshot of this unique burger. Oh, and he said it was good. I must admit, it does look delicious.

Why Homemade Pizza Tastes Better!

Homemade pizza seems to always taste better than delivery or frozen.

I don’t know if it’s the freshly chopped pepperoni.

Or maybe its the carefully kneaded dough with a sprinkling of flour.

It could be the hearty helping of juicy pineapple.

It might even be how evenly distributed every delicious topping is.

It could quite possibly be how hot and tasty it looks coming out of your own oven.

In the end, the reasons mentioned above don’t really matter. The evidence of one whole pizza being devoured in one sitting is enough of a reason for me.

French Toast Tuesday

Kicking it Korean Style in Portland

Moving from Korea didn’t necessarily mean we would have to give up our Korean lifestyle. Most major cities in North America have some of the foods and other things you would have in Seoul. While we were in Portland we managed to dive a little into our Korean side.

There are a couple of places in downtown Portland where you can choose from a variety of food trucks to eat from. One of these trucks offers a bit of Korean fusion food. At Boolkogi Taco, they take the sweet tasting bulgogi beef and put it in, you guessed it..tacos.

They were small, but quite tasty. Two tacos and a soft drink was $6. Not bad for lunch.

Another Korean activity we enjoyed while living in Seoul was karaoke. Karaoke in Seoul consists of renting a private room for you and your friends. Voicebox in Portland also offers private rooms.

Once in the room, the process is pretty simple.

First, you choose a song from one of the song books.

Next, belt it out for your friends listening satisfaction.

It’s nice to know that moving from Seoul doesn’t mean we have to say goodbye to Korean culture for good. Korean culture can be found in most major cities in North America. It was nice to have experienced some of it in Portland.

The Cupcakes of Cafe Everyday

Nestled inside the trendy, university district of Hyewha-Dong in Seoul, is a great little cafe with the most delicious cupcakes. The cupcakes of Cafe Everyday do not only taste great, but also look like individual pieces of art.

These cupcakes look almost too good to eat, but if you have a sweet tooth you will eat them anyway.

I’m not too sure what the calorie count is on these tasty suckers, but you will lose weight in your wallet or purse though purchasing these treats. The average price is about 4000 WON ($3.50 USD) each.

Though these cupcakes can be a little pricey and maybe a little high in calories, they are certainly worth a taste. You will admire their creative designs and then devour their deliciousness.

Eating at Charburger

Looking for a restaurant for great food and an amazing view in the Columbia River Gorge, Oregon? Charburger might be the place you’re looking for. We recently ate there while visiting the gorge. The food was delicious with large portions. Our booth beside the window gave us a picturesque view of the river, trees and a freight train slowly making its way along the tracks. The atmosphere of the restaurant brings you back to the time of cowboys and pioneers. The walls are covered in old western style relics from wagon wheels to guns to Native American artwork.
